The Law of Giving and Receiving

For the last few months my mum and I have been avidly listening to every episode of season 15 of Healing With The Masters. Jennifer McLean is a fantastic hostess and there have been some truly inspirational speakers who have impressed us so much that we have purchased some of their special offers:- John Newton, Mary A. Hall, Julie Renee Doering, Matt Riemann (PH360).

This week, the speaker has been Jo Dunning and during her first show she talked about giving and receiving. We learnt that when we give we’re impacting, and when we receive we’re impacting – not just ourselves, but all and ourselves. When we receive we’re creating the opportunity for someone else to be blessed by giving.

The story told in the Kingston Trio song “Desert Pete” teaches us that we’ve got to give of ourselves before we’ll be able to receive:

Even though we may not have all that we want to have right now we need to have some trust and some belief in the flow of life so that we are available to give a little bit and that primes the pump, that starts the action, to pull in the abundance that we long to have. It brings that back in to us… When we give something we are starting the flow of abundance and when we receive something we are allowing someone else to increase their flow of abundance. So it’s a wonderful infinity of this wonderful flow of life and the more we allow that experience to happen the greater the flow is for everybody. – Jo Dunning

Deepak Chopra also talks of The Law of Giving and Receiving, listing it as the second law in three of his books:

Deepak Chopra speaks of allocating one day a week to concentrate specifically on The Law of Giving and Receiving, putting it into practice in the following ways:

Wherever I go, and whomever I encounter, I will bring them a gift. The gift may be a compliment, a flower, or a prayer. Today, I will give something to everyone I come into contact with, and so I will begin the process of circulating joy, wealth, and affluence in my life and in the lives of others.

Today I will gratefully receive all the gifts that life has to offer me. I will receive the gifts of nature: sunlight, the sound of birds singing, spring showers, or the first snow of winter. I will also be open to receiving from others, whether it be in the form of a material gift, money, a compliment, or a prayer.

I will make a commitment to keep wealth circulating in my life by giving and receiving life’s most precious gifts: the gifts of caring, affection, appreciation, and love. Each time I meet someone, I will silently wish them happiness, joy, and laughter. – Deepak Chopra

As Deepak Chopra says, the gifts you give do not need to be of a material nature. For inspiration you may like to read the following posts of mine:

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” – Luke 6:38
